Starting the Project

Collaborative Anti-Bullying work between Leicestershire County Council and Leicester City Council led to wider partnership work to include local schools, Leicestershire Constabulary the SDSA (School Development Support Agency) and the Youth Offending Service. In 2011 an application was made for European Union Comenius Regio funding to support a project to develop Restorative Approaches in schools and the local community.

This funding would cover work over 2 years with a partner EU country in order to share expertise and organise reciprocal training, workshops, job-shadowing and produce resources. The funding covers reciprocal visits in order to carry out collaborative work and focussed research and also pays for project management, training and production of resources such as a training DVD and a project web site. Each country must work with a regional institution, some schools and at least one external partner.

Our project aims were advertised on the Comenius database and there was a high response from a range of different countries. We decided to work with Svendborg Municipality, Denmark as we had similar aims.
